The Dell PowerStore supports a variety of media devices, including NVMe SCM, NVMe SSD, SAS SSD, SAS HDD, and NVRAM. Of these, NVMe SCM, NVMe SSD, and SAS SSD carry a FIPS Type D
certification. This certification is a Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) certification that indicates that the device has passed a set of security standards established by the US government for use in sensitive, but unclassified data.

In Dell Unity XT storage systems, a dynamic pool is built using drive partnership groups. A drive partnership group is a group of drives that are combined to create a pool. A drive partnership group can be made up of SAS, NL-SAS, or Flash drives. In this case, the customer has a single pool built from 24x 800 GB SAS Rash 3 drives and 24x 1 6 TB SAS Rash 3 drives, and 14x 400 SAS Flash 2 drives. All drives are SAS type, and it's only one partnership group.

A migration import allows data to be transferred from an existing storage platform to a Dell PowerStore cluster. The platforms that support migration import to a Dell PowerStore cluster include Unity, VNX2, Dell EqualLogic PS series and Dell Compellent SC Series. These platforms are EMC storage systems, which are now owned by Dell Technologies.

The smallest dynamic pool created with the RAID 5 4+1 configuration is 6 drives. The minimum drive count includes the number of drives specified in the stripe width, plus the hot spare capacity. The hot spare capacity is selected by the user at pool creation, and can either be set to 1 or 2 drives for every 32 drives in the pool.

The LCC interface sits between the CPU board and the NVMe drives onboard Dell PowerStore components. The LCC interface is responsible for controlling the PCIe links between the CPU board and NVMe drives and allows for communication between the two. It also provides additional features such as error correction and power management for the NVMe drives.

An install of the PowerStore ImportKIT is required on the hosts to support import to PowerStore.

The DPE on 480/F, 680/F, and 880/F systems is internally connected to Bus 99 which is a separate bus than the first SAS expansion port that is connected to Bus 0. Therefore, the DPE is recognized by the system as Bus 99 Enclosure 0 while the first DAE connected to the first SAS expansion port would be Bus 0 Enclosure 0.
